PETER CARTWRIGHT, one of the most respected figures in the UK road transport industry, is justifiably proud of the Cartwright Group’s 65th anniversary year, describing it as a ‘great achievement’ for the company.

However, the organisation’s popular chairman is more modest about the fact that he has actually worked in the business for over six decades since he was 11 years old helping his father Stanley in the workshop in Shady Lane, Wythenshawe at weekends and school holidays.

Sixty-one years later Peter can still be found working six days a week, a familiar figure at Cartwright’s head office in Altrincham in his distinctive grey coat with pen in the top pocket…
