EARLIER this year, truck manufacturer DAF celebrated the 90th anniversary of its founding by Hub van Doorne who engineered unique solutions for car and trailer construction, but in 1949 he built his first truck and almost instantly moved into full production, majoring on Leyland engines which DAF was to later turbocharge to great effect as the marque successfully developed product and customer support, culminating in the new DAF XF and CF models taking the 2018 International Truck of the Year accolade.

Add 23 continuous years as truck sales market leader in the UK and a justifiably proud Robin Easton spoke positively of the future to the trade press assembled in Birmingham for April’s CV Show.

DAF’s UK managing director confirmed that innovations in the past such as tilt cabs, turbo intercooling and the high roof space cab were the forerunners of the truck builder’s lead in the world of platooning, hybridisation and electric power.
