It’s not just Transport News that is celebrating a 40th anniversary this year. Robert Auld, transport solutions executive at Volvo Truck and Bus Centre North & Scotland’s Glasgow West dealer point, is also marking four decades of loyal service with the manufacturer. Brian Gordon reports on a career dedicated to customers buying Volvo commercial vehicles.

BACK IN 1978, shortly after getting married, Robert Auld started work at the Volvo Trucks assembly plant in Irvine. Just two months later, the first tabloid sized, Transport News magazine hit the shelves. At that time Volvo Trucks UK was headquartered in Barrhead and thanks to the close proximity of Irvine, the brand was virtually considered a Scottish product.

Volvo literally ticked all the boxes on a double sided sheet of paper, as here was the build quality, performance and safety standards delivered by imported commercial vehicles, yet a vast percentage of the range was built in Britain.
