Hauliers have been warned that major construction work has started between Tomatin and Moy on the A9, writes Peter Brown.
Transport Scotland confirmed that the work has begun on the third section of the A9 Dualling Programme. Transport consultant John Campbell said there will be delays and hauliers need to factor that in as they travel between Aviemore and Inverness.
The work, Balfour Beatty won the £185 million contract, includes moving one million cubic metres of material plus topsoil, bringing in 32,000 tonnes of pavement surfacing material, add six miles of new and improved non-motorised user routes and put in 41 culverts.
Cabinet secretary for transport Fiona Hyslop MSP said: “The scale of the work being undertaken on the Tomatin to Moy section is significant and it was good to see how planning has already been undertaken to address the variety of engineering challenges and to prepare the earthworks required to complete this vital project.”
Transport Scotland also announced the publication of a Prior Information Notice (PIN) for the fifth section, between Pitlochry and Killiecrankie.
“This tangible progress, alongside the publication of the PIN notice for the fifth section, illustrates the real momentum taking place along the A9 corridor as we move forward with our delivery plan which will see the A9 between Perth and Inverness fully dualled by 2035,” she added.
