Maxi Caledonian saw revenues increase by 2.7% last year, thanks largely to operations within its haulage and warehousing division, writes Chris Tindall.
The results were announced as the company said MD Alan Miles would be stepping down from his position later this year.
Turnover across the group of companies was £105m in the year ending 30 September 2024, up from £102.2m in 2023.
In haulage and warehousing, revenues grew by almost 4% to £84.1m, despite the group describing “difficult market conditions”, including rising costs and difficulties recovering these impacting on margins.
Meanwhile, its construction and property businesses saw turnover fall.
Group pre-tax profit reduced by 20% to £3.6m.
In a statement, the company said the results showed Maxi Construction was performing well and its performance had continued into 2025.
“Maxi Haulage profits have been under pressure from various economic factors, but trading has improved into 2025 and we expect this improvement to continue through the remainder of the year despite the difficult industry conditions,” it said.
“Alan Miles, MD of Maxi Haulage has announced his plan to retire in November 2025 after 29 years with the company, during which he has achieved great success and growth.
“He will continue in a consultancy role, and we wish him a very happy retirement.”
The company added: “Group deputy chairman Richard Atkinson who has responsibility for the management of the haulage division said that succession planning was in place to ensure the continuing successful management and growth of the haulage and warehousing business.”
