Guide To Keeping Loads Secure

WHY LOAD security is important, what operators, drivers and consignors must do when loading and transporting goods and how load security is enforced, all forms the basis of a new Code of Practice recently published by DVSA.
If the driver becomes aware that part of the load has shifted, he or she should: slow down; avoid heavy braking; look for a safe place to stop and re-secure the load. Do not continue the journey until the load is secure, stresses the government’s guidance via the DVSA.
The operator and consignor must provide clear instructions on: suitable methods of loading and securing for each load type; how to check tension in the lashings at regular intervals; what to do if the load shifts during the journey and ensure that the load complies with lighting regulations, all as listed in the new Code of Practice published on 20 July.
