TRANSPORT NEWS AUGUST 2022 Boxer, Goliath and Tommy Boy are names chosen by Black Country haulier FSW Storage & Distribution to adorn its latest Mercedes-Benz trucks. The fourth generation family concern is proud of its history, so decided to call its new Actros tractor units after three of the shire horses used by founder Thomas George Fuller to pull coal on carts during the 1920s. Oldbury based FSW’s first truck from the current Actros model generation, are loaded with advanced technology for increased efficiency, safety and driver comfort. Supplied by Midlands Truck & Van, specifications include an enhanced version of the fuel-saving Predictive Powertrain Control system, Active Brake Assist 5 and the Multimedia Cockpit, a revised dashboard with intuitively operated twin screens, one with touch functionality. The Actros are 2551 variants and have flat-floored BigSpace cabs. Their 12.8 litre in-line six-cylinder engines generate 375kW (510hp) and drive through 12-speed Mercedes PowerShift automated manual transmissions.
