The Road Ahead

DAF has revealed an early working prototype of a Hydrogen-powered XF. But unlike some rivals, this one uses an internal combustion engine, writes Gordon Roberts.
TO MEET stringent EU CO2 emissions standards that come into play in 2025 (15% reduction) and 2030 (30% reduction), DAF will introduce a variety of low and no tailpipe emissions technologies.
Right now battery electric is the ‘go to’ technology but there are concerns regarding the charging infrastructure and its ability to keep up that might make customers hesitant.
Ron Borsboom is the executive director of product development at DAF. “We are also looking at other alternatives too,” he explained, like hybrids, which he believed is a step on the path to producing zero emissions in towns and cities, while offering range and flexibility outside of urban areas.
