Autumn Statement Fails On Fuel Duty

THE Chancellor’s Autumn Statement could have gone much further to reduce the costs of doing business, said the RHA.
Costs for road transport businesses have recently increased by over 11% with fuel alone up by nearly 40%, confirmed MD Richard Smith: “We were disappointed that no action had been taken to reduce fuel duty. We hope that our proposed Essential User Rebate will be considered for the Spring Budget 2023.”
Logistics UK is encouraged that the government has prioritised stability for the economy which will help restore confidence for businesses. However, the removal of Vehicle Excise Duty (VED) relief on vans is an unhelpful signal for millions of businesses at a time when they are being encouraged to move away from diesel. Our sector needs more incentives to make the switch to alternative fuels, rather than barriers on the road to Net Zero,” said policy director Kate Jennings.
