The Glasgow Freight Club has just celebrated 50 years of bringing the industry together and raising thousands of pounds for charity. David Craik spoke to chairman John McCormick.
MANY A fine idea – and many not so fine – has been generated in a pub on a Friday evening, but perhaps few have had the international reach and social impact of the Glasgow Freight Club.
The social club, consisting of professionals employed in the transport, shipping and logistics industries in the UK and abroad, raises thousands of pounds for charity every year from a series of lunches and events held in Glasgow.
There is the splendidly named ‘Feast of the Hangover’ held every year in January, as well as the Raymond Clarkson May Lunch – named in memory of the joint founder of Glasgow based KC Group Shipping.
