Carntyne Transport HGV drivers call off strike after 19% pay rise

An inflation-busting pay rise of 19% for Carntyne Transport HGV drivers has been secured by trade union Unite Scotland, writes Chris Tindall.

It means the dispute between the union and the Glasgow-based logistics firm, which is part of the Russell Group, is settled and ends threats of strike action after the haulier apparently refused to improve upon a pay offer, which Unite said would take HGV drivers’ pay to £13.72 an hour.

The improved pay deal means a 19% rise of basic hourly pay, as well as a premium on every hour for those working over nine hours a day of up to 35%.

Unite said it represented a basic hourly wage increase from £12.60 to £15.00, and after nine hours from £12.60 to £17.00.
