The Long Reid

Martin Reid, the Road Haulage Association’s Policy Director for Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland is approaching 10 years in the role. David Craik sat down with him to discuss the challenges and achievements during what has been a trying time for the industry and the country.

MARTIN REID now describes joining the Road Haulage Association almost a decade ago as a ‘leap of faith’.
Well, those higher powers have probably proved useful for the policy director for Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland given the events he has had to contend with over that time; Brexit, the Covid pandemic, the Beast from the East, the climate crisis and the economic fallout from a European war.
“A real baptism of fire,” Martin laughed. “It’s certainly been a decade of development and change but one in which, with the RHA’s drive, the industry is better understood by those in government and the public.”
