BREXIT is a strong contender for the most contentious issue in modern British history, but we did not embark on this article to dredge up its politics, rather to examine the reality facing Scottish operators since its inception.
The UK officially left the EU on 31 January 2020, but no changes were made until a new trade deal took effect exactly 11 months later. Prior to that, goods were not subject to regulatory checks when they left the UK for the continent and vice versa.
“The flow of traffic was amazing, although, at that time, we didn’t know it was amazing,” said Stuart Nicol, managing director of Stuart Nicol Transport.
David Rosie, transport manager at DR Collin who supply shellfish to France, recalled that it was possible to dispatch extra HGVs at short notice to meet higher demand.
