Up And Away

Since it was founded in 1967, James Paterson Haulage has grown as a direct result of the Highlands’ booming economy. Transport News travelled to Inverness to speak with the boss Jimmy Paterson.

IT’S EARLY July 2023 with the temperature up in the 20s and a clear blue sky overlooking the Moray Firth and Inverness, when renowned freelance photographer Tom Cunningham arrived at the yard belonging to James Paterson.
Nearly all photoshoots in Inverness use the Kessock Bridge as a dramatic backdrop but the usual patch of land designated for these images is now full of timber, making it inaccessible.
However, Jim, perhaps better known as ‘Jimmy Sticks’ (more of that later), pulled a few strings and took the new Volvo FM 8×2 crane wagon, along with Tom and his cameras, around to the car park belonging to Inverness Caledonian Thistle FC to capture the truck and the bridge from the northern side.
