Haulage Problems Brought To The Fore At Falkirk

SCOTTISH Cabinet Secretary for Transport, Infrastructure and Connectivity, Michael Matheson MSP, told RHA members that major trunk road improvements could help tackle the skills shortage.

Investing in a better road network would increase labour catchment areas and expand employment capacity as the industry faces up to a growing driver shortage of around 60,000 in the UK, he added.

Speaking at the Annual Conference of Road Haulage Association Scotland in Falkirk on 6 June, Michael Matheson said that air quality was, ‘probably the biggest issue of this generation’. Low emission zones in Edinburgh, Glasgow, Aberdeen and Dundee he said are a key part of his government’s strategy to tackle climate change and reduce the impact emissions are having on health.
