Mundell’s Islay Tractor Units Replaced By Terberg Tugs

B MUNDELL Ltd is a well known, family owned haulage company, now in its fourth generation, which operates out of Tarbert, Loch Fyne with depots based on Isle of Islay and in Hillington, Glasgow. The company specialises in the transportation of tanked spirits and bulk tipper traffic, but also provides general haulage requirements to and from the Island of Islay where, after an internal health and safety audit, Mundells determined a safer solution was required for shunting trailers on and off Caledonian MacBraynes Ferries (CMF).

The traditional method of ‘dropped trailers’ is not offered on CalMac’s Islay service, instead, trailers travel with units attached on the crossing that takes just over two hours.

Terberg DTS however offered a safe, reliable and cost effective solution that continues to support Mundell’s transport operation. It has enabled a successful phase out of the previous port based tractor units in operation with a smooth transition period and introduced the highly regarded Terberg YT182 yard tractor to improve operational efficiencies.
